Mentoring played a key role in my academic and professional life. The late William Daly, Professor Emeritus Stockton University, used to always refer to his students as “young scholars” and made sure to memorize their names. I took this approach into my own classrooms, calling all of my students “young scholars” to attempt to empower them in the present and in the future. While I may not have as great of a memory as William Daly I keep up to date on the scholars even when they become older.

During the Spring 2023 semester, the Old Scholars Network was created on LinkedIn as a way for my older/former students to keep in touch, ask questions, and even receive employment assistance and advice from my other former students and myself.

Students are always more than welcome to ask for advice and assistance from the “old man at the front of the room.”
